max amps for 10/2 12/2 wire.
Ineed to know the max. amps that should be used for 10/2 and 12/2 wire. Because I am not sire of the size I need to run. Thank you Tomcarl

For a quick, basic answer; 20 amps for #12, 30 amps for #10.
This is regardless of any other factors. There is an exception in the code book limiting the amperage of #14, 12 & 10.

I recommend against the calculator that Kobuchi cited. The problem is that it considers only voltage drop, but neither safety nor code. Ignoring safety and code seems very ill-advised. They claim to have "tried to consider safety as our primary factor" but they failed. The calculator claims to "yield results that are within code" but does not always do so. For example, try a 30-amp circuit over 10 feet. It will tell you to use #14 wire. That advise will probably burn your house down. For longer distances, it does give code-compliant results, but it shows its recommendations as "Required Minimum Wire Size". Recommendations and requirements should never be confused.
