wiriing new outlet, need gfi?

hi,

i need to wire in an outlet on a wall that seperates the kitchen sink counter top from the dinniing area. the wall only is about 4ft from an external wall. could i mount this outlet in that wall without it being a gfi?, as long as its on the other side of the wall on the dinning area side?it would still only be about 4ft from the sink, but on the oposite side of the wall facing the dinning area.

thanks,

bob b.

I see no problem with that. It would be hard to get water splashed into it. If that was the case all the outlets would have to be GFIC.
