Exclamation I am afraid.....very afraid

I have other posts talking about my re-wiring options when I re-finish my basement.
Ok, well I am working today, removing the suspended ceiling...and down drops this wire.....very big....very scary.

I know the house has a relatively new service, I thought it was 400 amp, but upon closer examination its a 200 amp service.

I checked it with a meter, and it shows no voltage....but what the heck could it have been for?
It looks like it is coming from the meter box.....but...if the electrical service was changed, "PROPERLY" I would think that this little loose end I have would have failed the inspection.

Is now a good time to worry about the rest of the "HOME IMPROVEMENTS" done by the previous owner?

Stevetra,

You mention your house has a new service. Are you able to tell if a new breaker panel was installed? Can you find where the other end of this heavy wire goes?

My guess is a new breaker panel, meter base, and service wire was installed and what you have here is the old service wire that was left abandoned. It appears to have been cut and just left in place. It would prob make you feel better to be able to find the other end.
