Figuring out new homes old problems..

We just bought a home that has 2 electrical problems that has me stumped. We have 2 porch light switches, (main level and downstairs) that are controlling other receptacles and light fixtures besides the porch lights. I've found the stray wire that shouldn't be in the switch , but my question now is what to do with it to restore power to the other fixture and duplex receptacles? The other fixtures have their own switch and the porch switches are single pole. The switch on the main floors porch light has to stay on all the time to keep power to the master bedrooms duplex plugs.....?? What a pain!
Thanks, advice will be sure appreciated..

This question has no simple answer. You're going to need to figure out exactly all the wiring you have and how it's all connected. Then draw it all out on paper and redesign. You might want to read a few books on home wiring to help you understand the concepts.
