Lighting Installation Under Workbench Canopy

Unlike Pyeddo, I'm not hard wiring. I'm preparing to attach 4 fluorescent lights to the workbench canopy. Could someone please tell me if what I'm about to explain is safe?

4 lights = 4 cords. I will have to plug all 4 of these into a double receptacle box, then turn around and plug this cord into one of those plugs you screw into a light socket. HACKACK! I wish this was something humorous, but it's not. It's the best idea I could come up with.

If anyone has any other ideas, or thinks this is even OK, give me a hollar.

Most light sockets are made for one 60 watt bulb and have small wires.
How many watts is your light socket good for ?

I apologize GWIZ. I have the problem solved. It's funny I discovered the solution ONLY after I posted. What I found is a receptacle straight from the circuit box on a circuit all to its own. I coulda swore it just popped up outa nowhere!

The load is going to be light anyways. All that will be on it at most is 4 fluorescents and a 20" color TV. That's not a tremendous demand. Well plus a dremmel tool and/or soldering iron at times.

ElectricalMan, you're only half right. You forgot stereo, refrigerator, table saw, and arc welder.

Well the task is complete now with no electrocution or fire. I just want to personally thank all the top notch expert electricians here with assisting me on my project at hand. You were very helpful in keeping everything going along safely. Words alone cannot describe how much a true asset you have been.

Again ... Thank You ...
