New GFI Switch

I am about to install a new GFI outlet in the bathroom. I will install it next to the medicine cabinet that has a light that is operated by a switch. What is the correct procedure to wire it from the medicine cabinet.

Thanks

The answer depends on whether you have unswitched power along with switched power at the light, or whether you only have switched power at the light.

If you only have switched power at the light then connect the black, white and ground wires for the GFCI receptacle to the same wires for the light.

If you have switched AND unswitched power at the light then you connect the ground and white wires to the same wires that feed the light. You then connect the black wire to either the wire that feeds the light (if you want the receptacle switched) or to the unswitched hot wire (if you want the receptacle always hot).

At the receptacle connect the black and white wires to the line input side of the GFCI receptacle and connect the ground wire to the ground screw.
