Arrow Bench Test for Pump?

Is it ok to bench test a circulator pump (for FHW) while it is dry(no water passing thru it) on a benchtop. I just want to make sure the motor works before i install it.
than you.

I would think as long as you did it quickly and didn't leave it run for any extended period of time, you would probably be alright.

If the pump has a ceramic seal in it then no. It should not be run dry. The ceramic seal will overheat. A 20 or 30 second run to verify motor runs will probably not hurt it but run time should be minimized if it is dry.
