Red face upside down outlet and air fresheners?

This may sound silly ... but it's worth a shot.
I purchase for a school, and our lost and found room is small and enclosed. One of the deans bought a plug-in air freshener for the room (old tennis shoes, gym shorts, etc. you know) but the outlets were installed with the ground pin on the top. I've read these forums and can see the reason, but the fresheners that plug in all are either liquid (and will fall out!) or they specifically say don't plug in upside down. They don't want a battery operated one, and we don't want to spend the money for the expensive industrial models. Any suggestions? They're wanting me to find some kind of adapter that will allow the outlet to stay ground pin up, but still let them plug in stuff ground pin down. (yeah they're demanding hehe)
Thanks!

I do not believe the orientation of the receptacles is Code mandated. Perhaps you can have the maintenance staff pull the receptacle and re-mount it with the ground pin down. It only takes a couple minutes to do this.

That has been considered but they feel that the builders put it in that way for a reason and don't want to mess with it ... was hoping there was some kind of swivel-adapter or something.
It's hard to explain how it is here but trust me ... they don't want to redo anything they just want it to work the way they need it to work. LOL
Thanks for the response though! Maybe if enough people say the same thing they'll listen to me hehe

Use a power strip. Mount the power strip on the wall with the ground pin any way you want, up down, left or right.

Racraft has an excellent idea. Most power strips have graduated screw holes on the back specifically for wall mounting. And if the closet is really stinky, with a power strip you could put in multiple deodorizers!

Or do what Juice originally recommended. Flip the receptacle over. As he said, it only takes a couple of minutes. I promise you that the builder had no particularly good reasons for putting them in the way he did. Frankly, it just doesn't make much difference. Trust me.

I agree with John, just flip the silly outlet. Theoretically, power strips are considered to be for "temporary use" only, especially in commercial situations like yours.

mission accomplished ... tails are a'waggin'
Temporary here tends to mean "until we have to change it" Besides ... the air fresheners run out after 30 days so it'll get a break in there hehe
Thanks again guys! Much appreciated!

Guess I'm a little late on this, but this is in the FAQ section on the Glade web site:

Will the warmer work in horizontal outlets?
Glade® PlugIns® Scented Oil has a new warmer unit that rotates to fit any outlet.

And this on the Air Wick site

AIR WICK® Scented Oil Adjustable Air Freshener ... Comes with a rotating plug for horizontal and vertical outlets and leaves the second outlet free

The ones my wife has all over the house have 4 different plug positions. They would work in any plug unless it's diagonally slanted.

Thank you! I looked at the Renuzit site which had their Airlets ... and those said not to plug upside down. Didn't make it to those sites so I'll pass that along for the next refill! That'll solve the "temporary outlet" problem too
