If you don't have a ground in your wiring method you should not extend any ungrounded circuits.

The recessed lights will have a warning that they should only be used with wiring that has 90 degree rated insulation. You old wiring will not meet this.

You should not extend an ungrounded circuit.

Lights and a fan do not need GFCI protection.

If you are remodeling the bathroom then it needs to be brought up to code. This would mean the circuit needs to be grounded.

Why not extend an ungrounded circuit? Is it a code violation or is it just bad practice? What is wrong with extending an ungrounded circuit to a new outlet and then grounding that new outlet?
