Minimum height for outlets in basement
#1

Hi,
I have been searching around for information on any code for outlets in the basement. I don't have a codebook.
Is there a minimum height off the floor that the outlets have to be? I would imagine maybe there is, due to the possiblity of basements flooding. I know that they have to be GCFI, but I can't find any height requirements.
If I don't find any requirements, I was thinking 24" off the floor.
Thanks,
Eric

Another thing to think about. If this is an unfinished basement then go higher. Many people like to take into account things like a piece of plywood (or other 4 foot wide material) against the wall, and put their receptacles just higher than that when wiring a garage or unfinished basement.

Remember; standard, normal, typical, are not code heights. Like Racraft said, there is no minimum or maximum, unless it is a required receptacle like the one required if there is equipment in the basement.
I persoanlly do 48" in unfinished basements.
