Test Equipment

What testing equpiment and testing is required on installations in Canada, for instance in the Uk we test insulation resistance and continuity and polarity.
Then we would test earth loop impedance etc... do any of these test apply to Us or Canada installations.

You need a ohm meter to check the resistance of the ground rod. also a polarity and amperage meter

Can I mix wire gauges?

I'm re-wiring the kitchen. I took a 10/3 wire and dedicated it to the microwave and refrigerator (It used to be a built-in oven dedicated circuit). Now I would like to add one wall electrical outlet to this line. Can I tap into the 10/3 in the attic (junction box), and use 12/3 wire running to the outlet from the 10/3, or do I need to stick to 10/3 wire all the way to the wall outlet? Also, is either a 20amp or 30 amp breaker OK on this circuit? Thanks.

In junction boxes (12/2 w ground), do the grounds have to be joined with a nut? I noticed on some prior work that was done that the grounds were spiced together (twisted) without a nut or tape....(The hot and nuetrals were)...do the grounds need to be attached to boxes (junctions, outlet, switch boxes?) thanks..
