Problem with wall switch kicking breaker

Help!!!

I have a wall switch that kicks the breaker when I turn it on ,it has 5
receotacls on it in the livingroom area, also I think it might turn on the
out side light. It has not worked in 25 years Mother inlaw just put tape over the switch when she moved in and left it that way. Now I owen the house and I'am selling it, so I need to fix it what should I look for and could it be wired worng???

Thanks for any help. Richard

Without any history to provide clues, it's hard to guess which of the hundred different things could be wrong. I think a call to an electrician would be wise. He'll probably find the problem in five minutes and fix it in the next fifteen. If you have no experience troubleshooting electrical problems, it would take quite a while. We could walk you through it, but it might take a couple of weeks. Do you have a couple of weeks to get this fixed, and do you have the time and energy to do it? If so, give us the word and we'll start asking you a hundred questions. Each one will require you to check something and report back.
