converting a wall light into one that plugs in

I bought what is normally a wall light fixture for the bathroom. I want to change it over to one that can plug into an outlet. I was told it was a fairly easy conversion; however, when I go plug it in after re-wiring, I blow the socket. I have no experience w/ electric - should i be doing something with the grounding wire. Please help.

Tell us how you connected the ires and we might be able to help you. As a start check any clamps have holding the wires and make sure you didn't tighten them so tight they cut into and shorted the wires.
