Angry Old Cabling

Anyone has any tips on removing the old cables from the walls without ripping the wall down . I have the old 12-2 cabling without ground and I am replacing it with 12-2 romex. I want to pull the old cable out but its fastened to the studs with those annoying metal rings and nailed in. No staple nails. Those would be easy to rip of with some force.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Abandon the old cable. Cut it off short at both ends and shove it into the wall cavity (so that it cannot be reused), and leave it there.
