dimmers

Here is the dilemma, I placed a new fixture in a hallway with a dimmer switch,
it worked fine for a day or two, now when I turn the switch on ,a totally different light in the upstairs hall comes on. It is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. Any ideas?

Sounds like you wired it wrong, or that a wire came loose somewhere.

Check your wiring. Tell us how you wired it and we can probably sort out the issue.

A likely explanation is that you had three black wires from the wall and two wires from your dimmer, and that you didn't pair up the right two wires from the wall. Another possibility is that the 3 black wires from the wall erroneously made you think you needed a 3-way dimmer.

In answering Bob's question, make sure you give us a complete inventory of cables and wires from the wall.
