Blown Circuits

We own an older house that is not ducted for central air. So, to cool the place we have bought window A/C units for each of the three bedrooms.

For the past month, there have been no problems when we ran 2 units at the same time. I installed the third unit this evening and, with all 3 running, the breaker keeps tripping, shutting the units (and TV, etc) off.

I assume that the third unit is putting too much voltage on the system. Is this true? Is there any way to fix this problem without a major overhaul? What are my options? Expensive fix?

Thanks!

The third unit is increasing the current draw. The total draw is more than the circuit can provide. I'm surprised that two units work without tripping the breaker.

What you should do (even to run two units) is to have new circuits run, one for each air conditioner. You should not attempt to run these units on the same circuit with the other loads.
