30 Amp off 220 circuit.

30 Amp off 220 circuit.
I am installing a 30 amp, with internal circuit breaker, outside box for my R.V.
There is an unused 220 cooktop circuit with nothing connected to it nearby. It has a white, red, black, and ground inside. Can I hook the sheilded 6' cable to the black,(hot), white, (return), and ground to get a single 30 amp circuit? In the main panel this circuit has a double 30 amp Pushmatic breaker. This way I don't have to replace the breaker in the main panel and I can retain the 220 circuit for future use and leave the additional hot (red) wire capped. Is this a good idea?
Thanks for any help with this. Kevin

Either way. The breaker in the main would provide the necessary protection, but if the extra panel already has a 30-amp breaker, I'd probably go ahead and use it too.

Thanks for the help.
John, Thanks for the help with this question. Since the main panel is 30+ years old I hate to have to switch the main breaker off to add things to the panel. Last time I did this to add a spa circuit I had to buy a new main 100 amp breaker at a specialty electric supply for $150.00!
Thanks again. I'll be finishing this project this afternoon, or tommorrow, and I will let you know how it works out.
