Intermittent Outlet

I have a single outlet on a circuit that sometimes does not work. No breaker or GFCI is tripped. Any ideas as to what's causing this would be appreciated.

Probably a loose connection.

Here's a trick. Plug a lamp or radio into the receptacle. Turn it on. Wiggle the plug firmly with your fingers, such that the receptacle itself also wiggles. If the lamp or radio comes on and off when you do this, shut off the breaker, pull out the receptacle and check for bad connections. Be especially suspicious of backstabs (wires poked into holes). Move any of them to the adjacent screw. Actually, remake the connections anyway, even if the wiggle trick doesn't work.

Or maybe the receptacle is controlled by a wall switch and people flip that switch from time to time.
