Question gfci trouble

I attempted to install a gfci receptacle in my bathroom;which had a regular receptacle (House was built in the 70's). According to inx the gfci is shipped from factory in the tripped condition; I plugged in a radio, turned the power on and reset gfci. Radio did not work. In addition I'm not getting any power in any of my bedroom or the adjacent bedroom's outlets; however bathroom lights and fan are working. No switch had tripped in the circuit breaker, I tried turning on and off every switch and still nothing. I reset one tripped gfci in another bathroom; another gfci gave me a reading of open ground, and another is not receiving any current. Any suggestions?

Any chance you mixed up line and load? Any chance there is already a GFCI upstream? In exactly what year of the 70s was the house built?

I agree with John, and suggest you look for miswiring.
