Question How much to replace Fuse box with Breakers?

I am buying a house and we need to have the Fuse box replaced and updated to a box with Breakers. How much should an electrician charge for this?
I just need estimates so that I don't get hosed when I go to hire someone!

The price will depend on a number of factors such as:
Were you are located.
What is the size of the present service.
What condition is the service entry in.
Can you be happy with the power you have available right now or do you want more.

In the Washington - Baltimore Standard Statistical Area the price would range between $1000 for a panel change out to $2000 for a complete heavy up to two hundred amperes with an underground service entry.

I hope that helps.

I paid $1,200 for an upgrade from 60A fused service to 200A breakered service last year. This was in the Lansing area; Ann Arbor rates may be a little higher, but you will probably have more contractors to choose from. Look in the Yellowpages for electrical contractors and get three estimates.

Is the fuse box your main service panel or just a subpanel? That will cause the rates to vary considerably. (I had a similar situation with a main breaker panel and a fused sub panel)

Posts: 744 I am wont touch an upgrade for anything less than $ 1,500.00 on a small 100A to 200A upgrade.....and if it requires a disconnect at the meter and SER and so on.....we are around $ 1,900.00 to $ 2,200.00.

I figured you all would be much higher up in baltimore area tom.....we are down in the shenandoah valley and get the prices listed above.
