Replacing Panel

Wondering if anyone knows what code says about extending single conductors inside a main breaker panel. About half of my hot wires are too short to reach the new breakers, I know that a simple wire nut is not permissible, wondering if a butt connector is possible?
Thanks

This knowledge is incorrect. Wire nuts are permissable. The only limitation is if you have so many of them that they overcrowd the box.

thanks!

Thanks for the reply, the reason I asked the question is that I had already done this work, now we are selling our house and the house inspecter for the buyers said that the way I had done it was fine, however I was supposed to use crimp-on connectors as opposed to wire nuts. So I am hoping he is mis-informed?

I'm hoping so too.

Crimp connectors would be a very bad idea anyway.
