Afci?
Hello guys, I've seen the term AFCI thrown about a lot and am not sure what it means. Thanks.

Arc Fault Circuit Interruptor. It's a circuit breaker with special electronics inside designed to trip if it detects arc faults, such as are typically seen in frayed lamp cords. All AFCI breakers on the market also trip on ground faults too, although not all are sensitive enough to meet GFCI code requirements. And like all breakers, AFCI breakers also trip on overcurrent and short circuits. AFCI requirements are new starting on January 1, 2002 at the earliest, although many localities may have deferred, or may still be deferring, all or part of the requirements. So far, the requirements only apply to bedrooms.
