Chime unit problem

Everytime I attach the transformer and button wires to my new chime unit, it rings once and then emits a buzzing sound until the wires are disconnected. I've tested the actual button and transformer and they work fine. Has anybody experienced anything like this before?

You either have two bare wires touching or a stuck pushbutton. The transformer is working and so is the chime. The problem is that the chime is staying on (buzzing).
First check your wiring at the switch. disconnect one wire at the switch, turn on the power - the chime should be silent. If it is buzzing, you have a wiring short. If it is quiet, briefly touch the disconnected pushbutton wire to the other push button wire. If the chime dings when the wires are together and dongs when they are separated, the problem is in the pushbutton.
Also be sure that you have one transformer wire going to the chime and the other going to the switch. The other wire from the swtch attaches to the F or front door terminal on the chime.

Hi goldstar, thanks for replying! I'm going to look at the switch again today.

You might have the components in parallel also. They should be in series.
