Fluorescent Fixture Won't Light

I am hoping you might be able to help me with a fluorescent fixture that is causing me problems. It a hardwired, under-the-counter model that hangs over a desk. It stopped working and I replaced the bulbs and starters to no avail. I then bought a new fixture, but it will not work either.

I have a primitive voltage meter (red light on or off). When I touch it to the wires that run to the fixture, the red light comes on but VERY dimly. In contrast, when I touch it to the wires in an outlet that is in the same box, the light burns very brightly.

Any suggestions on what may be causing my problems?

Many thanks for your help.

Mitch

You have an open connection. Check the wire connections at the junction box.

Bob,

Thanks for your quick reply. I pulled out of the 2-gang wall box the outlet and switch (which controls the fixture). All of the original wiring is intact and the connections and contacts all seem good. Suggestions?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Seem to be good is not the same as are good. Verify that the connections are good. I think that you will find that one of them is not.
