question about adding a 220 circuit

Im going to wire a 220v 20a circuit in my garage for a air compressor. The wall im putting it on has no 110 outlets, so i want to add a 110 outlet also. My question is, can i run 12/3 and run a 110 outlet off the same circuit, or do i need to run 2 seperate wires? I know i can, but not knowing the codes, im not sure if it would be ok code wise. I was going to install them in the same box, what is the proper way to do this? thanks

No you cannot do this. The 220 line must be a dedicated circuit on its own 2 pole breaker. The 110 receptacle can share a circuit with other receptacles. You can use the same box but there must enough space in the box for the receptacles, wires & there must be a non-conductive barrier between the two devices.I would use 2 seaparate boxes
