Question on a Generator

Is there any reason a television don't work when using a generator? I hooked a television up inside a camper, everything else worked fine..even from the same receptacle.

Depends on what else you tried. Many items will work at various abnormal voltages, such as heaters, lights, etc.
You TV might not have liked the voltage levels (maybe RMS voltage too low).

Generators (at least most inexpensive/small ones) produce dirty power. That is the power is not perfect. Many devices donít care, while others care a great deal. Apparently your television doesnít like the power from the generator. Be thankful it refuses to run, rather than it runs and is damaged.

Another thing is if you leave things plugged in when you shut down the genset. The frequency and voltage drop slowly until the motor stops. This can burn out many electronics.

Moral: Unplug, then shut down.
