Question Upgrading to 200 amp service?

The family is finally going to remodel our mothers home. Going to put in a 200 amp service panel. What would be the cost be to do that. She lives the Los Angeles, Ca. area.

Any input would be apprecaited.

Thanks

There are a lot of variables, but it'll probably be between $1000 and $2000, with a chance of it being either higher or lower than that range.

Update!

Well are first bid was $2000.00 then $2300.00 from the same Electrican! Then are second bid was $3400.00 and our third bid was $1900.00 and all saying that they were getting the permit to do the job. We had one company that would not even come out to bid the job without the power company being present to help locate where (if we had to relocate the meter) panel/meter would be! And they were the local in town company for 20+ years! We are going with the $1900.00 bid. We post a report on how it turns out!

I'm surprised they're so low. It seems California has some of the highest rates in the country.
I'd get laughed at if I quoted those prices. Then again, you couldn't pay me enough to live in Cali.
