Wiring for washer & dryer

I'm going to help a friend move a washer and dryer to a new spot. New plumbing
has been installed but we have a question about the electrical plug in. It is an electric washer and a gas dryer and there is an existing non grounded plug-in near where the two will sit. Do we need to install a grounded GFCI plug-in and can the washer and dryer both be plugged into the same box?
Thanks!

The proper and best solution is to install a new 20 amp circuit that is dedicated to the washer and dryer. Both will run fine on a dedicated circuit.

If you choose to use the existing circuit then replace the receptacle with a GFCI receptacle and make sure that you attach the "No Equipment Ground" sticker to the receptacle. Whether you can get away with both on the same circuit depends on if there is anything else on the circuit or not.
