Cool Door Bell HUMMS!!!

I live in Florida. During a very violent thunderstorm my door bell began to humm without stopping. I have disconnected it. I would like to know what to do in order to repair it. It is an older door bell with the electric magnet and transformer. I would rather keep it than replace it. Any advice would be extremely helpful.

Thanks

Sounds like a stuck button at one of the doors. Possibly a shorted wire to one of door buttons.

I agree with Joed. Disconnect the wires on the chime from the F and R (if you also have a rear door button) terminals - one at a time. If either stops the hum, that is the button to check. Disconnect one wire from the questionable button and re attach all wires at the chime. If the chime is quiet, touch the loose wire at the button to the other wire at the button. The chime should work and you need to replace the button. If the chime still hums with the button wire disconnected, you have a short in the wiring which you will have to trace.
