40 amp or 50 amp breaker for range?

As you may know I am installing a new electric range and running new cable. When shopping for the range I was told by more than one sales person that I need a 50 amp breaker.
The specifications for the range say "Max amp load - 40 amp circuit min at 240 volts".

So is a 50 amp breaker OK to use?

You can use either a 40 or 50 safely. 40 is just the minimum.
Either can be used with the required 50 amp cord and receptacle.
