Dimmer Dillema

I would like to install some rope lighting in a cove in my basement and I would like it to be controlled by an existing dimmer switch on the wall

My thoughts are 1. - Install a receptacle tied in to the dimmer circuit and plug the lights in or 2. - Cut the ends off the rope lighting (there is no transformer) and hardwire the lights in a junction box.

Can anyone provide some feedback on which one would be better/right? They both essentially do the same thing, but will be getting this inspected and want to do it the right way first.

Thanks for any help!!!

You cannot have a dimmer controlling a receptacle. It is not allowed.

You cannot hardwire these lights if they have a cord and plug.

Find different lights.
