Question Electric hookup of double wall oven

Electric Hookup Frigidaire Electric Double Wall Oven

the manual calls for 40 amp with # 8 wire (3 + grnd) - "The double wall oven can consume up to 8000W at 240Vac; use a circuit breaker of 40 Amp with wire gauge #8 AWG."

yet the pig tail on the oven contains #12 awg and when the cover was removed I found #12 awg running from the junction block to the innards was also #12 awg

seems like that #12 wire would melt befor the 40amp breaker kicks out??

thanks in advance

Where are you talking about that you saw # 12 wire? Original to the oven?

Manufacturers are allowed to use smaller wire internal to appliances and such because the wires can actually handle the higher load. Plus, the appliances are tested and inspected by an agency, such as Underwriter's Laboratories.

When wires are in a cable assembly or in conduit and/or buried in walls or run underground, code requires the current/wire size ratings that we are familiar with.

thanks Bob,

The flexible conduit from the oven has 4 wires the leads are #12 awg - beging concerned I opened the back of the unit and found that these leads treminate in a junction block which is likewise connected to #12 awg wire which then disappears into the innards of the oven

being 2 wire sizes smaller than the required feed (# 8) I was concerned

thanks again for your input
