Automatic (light activated) outdoor lamp

I have a light on lamp post in my front yard which is supposed to turn on automatically when it gets dark. There is a light sensor on the lamp pole. I replaced the bulb with a new one and it does not work. Any ideas for a fix?

Have you figured out where the problem is? Is there power to the pole? Is this a screw in sensor that goes directly under the light bulb? If so have you tested it?

Sorry, newbie here. How would test whether there was power to the pole? I have a tester (i.e. two wires and little light in the middle). Thanks

The sensor could have failed. You would need to take the fixture off the pole to gain access to the sensor.

Understand that it is not darkness that turns the light on, rather it is light that turns it off. The normal failure mode for a photoelectric cell is that the light burns all the time rather than not at all. Suspect a lack of power to the pole.
