Question Dimmer switch on a 3way circuit?

I have a dining room light that is a on a 3way circuit (you can turn the light on from both ends of the room)...My wife would like to have this light on a dimmer...is this possible by just replacing one of the 3 way lights with a dimmer switch...or I suppose I need a 3-way dimmer switch?...

thanks
Doug

You definitely need to use a 3-way dimmer. They are readily available.

The least expensive three way dimmer switches only allow for one three way dimmer. You install the dimmer in place of one three way switch or the other. With these you can turn the lights on or off from either location, but you can only dim the lights from the end with the dimmer.

There are other three way dimmers that you can install on both ends, but they are more expensive.
