Smoke Detectors

I have a 4 year old home. Yesterday all the smoke detectors started sounding. They are wired and have battery backup. I removed all the batteries and they stopped. Then, 2 hours later I put the batteries back and all if ok for now. What causes this to happen.

Thanks in advance :}

Sometimes they just need to have the accumulated dust cleaned out of them.

There is a third wire that interconnects all the smoke detectors. When one detects smoke, they all go off.

Smoke detectors should be blown clean with canned air once a year.

They may also need to have the batteries replaced. Though most just beep when the battery gets low.

I think you are suppose to replace the batteries twice a year (or is it once a year?) anyway.

If you smoke, have a fireplace, burn a lot of candles or cook fried foods a lot, you may need to clean them more often. All of those activities put a lot of particulate matter into the air.
