220v Spa hookup

I was wondering how to determine the proper AMP breaker for the hookup of a new spa. What is the best single pole or double pole.

"220 volt" and "single pole" do not go together.

The electrical requirements for the spa will dictate the proper size circuit needed. Electrical codes will dictate how to connect it. Be warned that codes for spas are extremely specific about what is and what is not allowed. If you donít know the codes you will, without a doubt, make a mistake and get it wrong.

Please do your homework before even thinking of tackling this project.

They vary. Read the installation instructions. If the installation instructions don't say, then call the manufacturer. If that fails, tell us everything that is on the nameplate.

Make sure you read up on your local codes for a disconnecting means.
Most states require a local disconnect switch to be min. of three feet away from the spa but not more then six feet. Point being that you cant reach the disconnect from inside the spa but it still is close by.

Local codes are the final answer.
In my area it is 5' minimum and usually 50' max and within sight of the tub.
Six foot max seems quite close IMO. Sometimes it is impossible to get that close.
