new computer trips afci

My stepson just got a new computer and UPS. Now, everytime he turns the computer on, it trips the AFCI. It did this in his room, and the living room (also afci'd). We can reset the AFCI and it doesn't retrip, and his old computer didn't do this.

Any ideas?

Take the ups out of the connection and see if it still trips. When I worked with computer hookups a couple of years ago, I remember something about some recalls on breakers from Seimans or Itt I think that had something to do with the UPS causing the interruption. Not real sure about this, maybe someone else can jump in. Also, do a search on Google and see what you find. Also, try a computer forum, I am sure someone there will know what is happening.

I considered the UPS, but I have three more just like it (APC 1500's also on afci circuits). Though I suppose there could be something wrong with this particular unit.
