Question gfci/fluorescent lights

replaced 2 incandescent fixtures w/2 bulb fluorescents in garage lights work but gfci recept on wall trips when turned on gfci checked okay w/tester will reset w/ or without light on does starter cause gfci to read a fault on start up? fixes? thanks don

Don't GFCI protect the lights. They aren't required to be, and the behavior you are seeing is common.

Although fluorescent fixtures sometimes cause problems with GFCI, they should be okay most of the time. Perhaps you have accidental contact between the neutral and ground somewhere downstream from the GFCI. Or if you GFCI is more than a few years old, you should replace it with a new one. The newer ones are much more resistant to false trips.
