blinking lights

I'm running a dehumidifyer in the master bath and when it cycles on the lights blink. Any ideas on whats up with this? The house is 27 years old.

Are the lights fluorescent? If so, the motor is causing the blinking effect you are seeing (or not seeing). This is because, being 27 years old, the bathroom lights and receptacles are on the same circuit. Today's code does not permit lights and receptacles in a bathroom to be on the same circuit.

The dehumidifier draws a considerable current, especially when starting. This large draw causes the lights to blink. Incandescent lights would typically just dim, whereas florescent lights might actually blink off and then restart.

Bathroom codes in the NEC are tricky. Lights and receptacles in bathrooms are allowed to be on the same circuit, as long as that circuit is 20 amp and only serves one bathroom.
