Fixing 2 switches

Fixing 2 switches
I have a double gang box that has the power feed coming into the box and then two switches in the box that control seperate lights (one goes to the ceiling light the other to wall sconces) How should this be wired? The whites are together in a nut but the configuration of the black wires makes it so that you have to turn one switch on to turn the other switch on. How can I make them so that the 2 switches work independently of the other?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Connect the white wires together as you have done.
Connect the black power wire together with two pigtails. Run one pigtail to each switch.
Connect the the black wire for the ceiling light to one switch.
Connect the black wire for the sconces to the other switch.
Connect all grounds together, and to the box (if metal) and to each switch.
The way you have described the wiring tells me that you confused the black wires.

I think you have confused the always hot (power) wire with one of the light wires. Use a tester to determine which black wire is always hot and then connect that wire to the two pigtails.

I agree with RACRAFT.. the only way it could do what you are saying, is if you had the power to one switch and had pigtailed the light to the two switches (instead of the power), and the sconce to one switch..
