Is this wiring OK

I ve been trying to catch up on the maintenace of my wife's house down in FL. When her father passed away a couple of years ago he hadnt done any maintance on the house for about 7 years prior. The house has a 240 hookup out in the yard for a camper. When we tried to use it over the holidays it wouldnt work, ground fault would not reset. New breaker fixed the problem but I have a question about the wire. Instead of using direct burial wire he used wire for a submersible well pump. Is this OK? I can see why he used it, he had a couple thosand ft of it here.

Submersible well cable can be buried, but make sure it is protected, and buried according to local code. Also, make sure the size is correct. Most campers use higher amperage hookups, say 30 amps, which would require a 10 gauge wire, and I am sure the well pump cable you have is only 12 gauge. Some older well cable does not contain a grounding wire, either, so this will be an issue, also.
