Quick question about pushed in outlet
I know this is a simple question but it's the simple ones I geet confused on. My outlets in most of my house are pushed very far back.
I can't remember what and where you put something behind to push them out.
Thanks for helping in advance.

Most electrical supply houses and maybe big boxes sell plastic box extenders that fit around the screw and behind the outlet in a "v" shape and compress as you tighten your screw. You most likely had an addition of sheetrock, panelling or some other super surface added in the rooms, and extension rings were not fitted.

I take it the box is to far back? You can use longer screws if the ears of the outlet will catch the drywall or whatever. If the ears don't catch, take a piece of #14 or #12 wires and strip it bare, get a scratch-awl or pen and wrap the wire around the pen, make a couple wraps, clip the ends off so what your left with is a tight "spring" looking thing. Slip the spring over the screw of the outlet and use it as a spacer. If the outlet sticks out to much, clip a little off, if it doesn't stick out enough, add more to the spring.
Sounds silly but it work.

If the box is more than 1/4" back from a non-combustible surface, or not flush with a combustible surface, the wound wire spacer is NOT an acceptable fix. The box must be extended out.
