Changing an outlet

I need a 220v outlet to fire my kiln. How difficult is it for a reasonably intelligent person to change a standard 120v to 220v?

What would the procedure be?

Generally you can't change a 120 volt receptacle to 240 volts. You especially can't do this for a kiln, which usually has significant power requirements.

You will need to run a new circuit specifically for the kiln. The breaker, wire size and receptacle and will be based on the power requirements of the kiln.

You can only do it if the receptacle you want to change is the only thing on the circuit. And then the wire feeding the receptacle must be the correct size for your kiln or it still can't be used.
