junction box question

regarding the grounding screw, I haven't seen a box at HD that comes with one. Are these purchased seperately?

Also, I haven't seen any plastic J-boxes there either. Can someone provide me a link to where these can be purchased? Thanks in advance. I'm learning a lot as I go.

If you buy metal boxes, you can buy a package of grounding pigtails (screw plus wire) or a package of grounding screws. Except in certain markets, there is little reason for a DIYer to use metal boxes, and plenty of reasons not to.

The HD I go to carries a lot of plastic boxes. Almost any switch or receptacle box can serve as a junction box.

Yes, they can be purchased seperately. You can also buy box grounding assemblies which have a box screw, green pigtail and green wirenut pre-assembled. They usually come in packages of 10 for about $4.

I can't believe that HD doesn't have plastic j-boxes; maybe your local store has less inventory than most. Do you live in an area where steel boxes and conduit are required like Chicago? Perhaps they don't carry them because no one can use them legally.

The DIY store has a large selection of j-boxes here:

No, we can use plastic boxes here. Just haven't seen any that resemble the regular metal j-box, or any plastic covers.
