Proper electrical wiring for dual switch

I have an electrical outlet with a plug in on the bottom and a flip switch to turn on the disposal. The switch was faulty so we bought a new electrical outlet. There are 2-black, 2-white, 2 ground wires for the outlet. There are 2 brass for the black wires, and 1 silver tab only rather than 2 and 1 more brass. Green screw for the ground. What is the proper way to hook up all of these to each other.

Welcome, koolbrz,

There are ... 2 ground wires for the outlet.
Have a picture?

> 1 silver tab only rather than 2

Do you have a picture of the old one?
The brass tab can be broken off for a split receptacle.

The silver tab should not be broken (in all but the worst cases).

I do not have a pic of the old one. The way it was wired before, 2 of the whites were hooked up together when it was working, but now I cannot remember which two and don't want to short something out, I should clarify, the outlet was the switch on top, which was for the disposal, the lower was a plugin as a reg.electrical outlet. The house is like 26 years old.
Thanks

This is probably not a legal install, but regardless, we need to know ALL the cables and what they are for. You need to identify the incoming power and the wires that go out to the disposal.
