Lights Dim

Hello All

I have house that was build it the mid 50,s in Levittown PA. I have a little annoying problem in the summer time. When my neighbors central air unit turns on my lights in the house dim for a split second. What could be the problem? Is it my neighbors problem or mine or the power company? I have a 100 amp service.

Thanks Kevin

Are your houses both fed by the same transformer?

The problem is that you share a transformer. Some dimming is unavoidable.
What is the KVA rating on the transformer (5, 10, 15, 20, 25)?
How many houses share it? Two? Five?

Slim chance the poco will upgrade it if you can show that the total load exceeds what the transformer can really handle. Changing from a 5 to a 10 KVA would greatly alleviate the problem. But you need to make a case for it. Perhaps the poco will agree to monitor your line voltage on a hot day. (Personally, I think you might have a case.)

Chirkware YES both houses share the same transformer.

Bolide I do not know the KVA rating. I guess I can find that out. I will have to check how many homes are on it. I will have the power company out in the summer to check the line voltage.

Thanks Kevin

Usually the number is plainly marked on the transformer.
