Install new over the shower recessed light

Good Afternoon,

I am curious the best way to handle a new recessed lighting install over my shower in my bathroom. I have a fan and a light over the sink now controlled by two different switches. My question is that I want the one existing switch for my light to control the NEW light that will be going into the shower as well. What is the best way to do that?

Thanks,
Wes

Do you also want it to control the existing light as well?

Yes. I want both lights to go on at the same time. Just thought it would be easier.

Run cable from the existing light to the new light. Make sure that you use a shower rated trim for the light. Might need GFCI protection also.

Sounds like a plan. Do I just go black to black? White to White? Ground to Ground?

Yes, that is all there is to it.

Although the hot wire for the existing light may not be black. Since it is coming from a fan/light combination unit, it could be red.

At any rate, just connect the black and white of your new cable to the same wires that the black and white of the original fixture are connected to (no matter what color they are).
