protecting NM cable

Quick questions about NM.

1) Is exposed NM permitted in the area that houses the dishwasher? Such as stapled to the back or side walls, given that it doesn't interfere with moving the dishwasher in and out.

2) Is exposed NM permitted in a drawer cabinet, in the area behind the drawers. The drawers do not get closer than 2.5" to the back of the cabinet.

Thanks.

1) If the cable is not exposed when the dishwasher is in place (i.e., you couldn't kick the cable if you tried), then it's okay.

2) In normal situations, the drawers would be in place and thus would protect the cable from damage. But an individual inspector might see this otherwise.
