Emergency shutoff

Im not sure if this question goes under Elect or Plumbing/Heating... Where can the emergency shutoff switch for the furnace go...Mine is right next to the unit...Does it also have to be at the top of the stairs if the unit is in the basement.

In an emergency, where do you want to go to shut off your furnace?

in some states if you have oil burner furance system you have to add a emercy shut off switch on stairway to act like remote shut off but gaz fired unit hard to say but most place genrally say near the furance useally do the trick.

i am not sure where you from but i will suggest to check with building inspector they have latest code to deal with it

Merci , Marc
