Installing undercabinet lighting
I will be adding undercabinet lighting by direct wiring them to nearby outlets. Is there wiring that I can use besides standard 12 or 14 gauge Romex? Since each light only draws about 40watts, I would prefer to use a much smaller cord that is approved for in-wall use. Am I simply limited by the size of the circuit they are on?
Thanks,

If this is a kitchen and if you are in the US and if you are talking about counter top receptacles then you cannot do this.
You cannot use "cord" at all.
If the lights are designed to hard wired then they need to hardwired with the appropriate size cable for the circuit, that means 12-2 or 14-2, for a 20 amp or 15 amp circuit respectively.
